Older houses, narrow access and working around what is already there
Established streets mean varied house styles, from timber homes on stumps to brick houses from later decades. Many have side access that is tight, with fences, water tanks and sheds in the way. Machines may need to be small, and materials sometimes have to be moved by hand.
Services under the ground are another thing to watch. Old stormwater, sewer and water lines can run across a yard, and digging without knowing where they are can cause damage. We ask what you know about them and look for clues before any excavation. Neighbouring fences, shared boundaries and established trees also influence where a wall or paved area can go. Talking with neighbours before work starts is a courtesy that often prevents later disputes.
